Coventry – Alba H. Bellows Jr., 90, of Casey Lane, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Riverview Healthcare Community. He was the beloved husband of the late Edith (Barr) Bellows.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Alba H. and Regina (Harris) Bellows, he lived in Cranston for forty years and West Warwick for seven years before moving to Coventry in 1998. He was a World War II veteran serving with the United States Merchant Marines in the North Pacific and North Atlantic Theatres providing transportation to the US Army.
He worked for twenty-three years for Allendale Insurance Company before retiring in 1982 as assistant Vice President of Properties. From 1985-1995 he served as Building Inspector for the City of Cranston.
He was a sixty-three year Mason and a member of Mount Vernon Lodge #4, North Kingstown. He was a recipient of a Masonic Grand Lodge Veterans Medal; a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Providence; a senior DeMolay of Fidelity Chapter; a Dad Advisor for Woodridge Assembly International Order of Rainbow for Girls and a recipient of the Rainbow Grand Cross of Color. He also was a volunteer at the Rhode Island Community Food Bank in West Warwick.
He is survived by two sons, Robert E. Bellows Sr. of West Warwick and Gary A. Bellows, whose wife is Karen, of Richmond; two daughters, Carol A. Bellows of Cranston and Robin A. Chase, whose husband is Robert M. Jr., of Coventry; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Frank E. Bellows.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Calling hours Monday 4:00 – 7:00 PM with a Masonic Memorial Service conducted at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Providence.
