North Kingstown - Margaret M. "Peggy" Acciola, 81, of North Quidnessett Road, passed surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Kent Hospital in Warwick.

She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Katherine (Harrington) Moran and sister of the late Elizabeth A. "Betty" Leonard and Thomas Moran. The beloved mother of Katherine A. Acciola-Chan & her husband Gary of West Warwick and Michael T. Acciola of Sterling, VA, she was also a loving grandma of her two grandchildren, Jason & Alexis.

Born in Providence, she graduated from St. Mary Academy-Bay View and resided in Providence before moving to North Kingstown sixteen years ago. Devoted to her Catholic upbringing, Peggy lived a faith-filled life despite residing in two different nursing homes for the past 40 years.

Her faith provided the foundation for the courage with which she lived each day. Her sincerity and concern for others, when combined with a great sense of humor, earned her the title of "The Mayor" at both Summit Commons and Scalabrini Villa where she resided. She was passionate about her family.

Peggy loved to bowl and play bingo, along with being crafty. She enjoyed being outdoors; going by the water and watching the animals that were around and also the sight and smell of flowers. When she could go out for a ride, she always looked forward to eating out. She enjoyed a variety of foods; all sorts of seafood and sweets. "Fudge please".

In her younger years, she served as a volunteer for the Civil Air Patrol.

Her funeral will be held from Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Friday, May 12 at 9 AM. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Francis de Sales Church, 381 School Street, North Kingstown at 10. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 11 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.

Kindly omit flowers. Her family requests she be remembered with donations made in her memory to: RI Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 422 Post Road, Suite 102, Warwick, RI 02888 or online at
