Gail M. (Alexander) Hanson, 78, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI. She was the beloved wife of William C. Hanson, Jr., formerly of Bath, ME. They were married in 1963 and moved to Rhode Island the same year.

Gail was born in South Gardiner, ME, daughter of the late Roland W. and Marion B. (Trott) Alexander.

Gail had strong Christian values, which reflected in her everyday life, especially in raising her children. She always had a warm welcoming personality, whose five-star baking and cooking skills filled the house with mouth-watering aromas of sweet treats and home-cooked meals. Many of the children's friends considered her as a second mom. She was selfless, always worrying about others even up to the final days of her life. Aside from her motherly role and taking care of the home, she took great pleasure in recognizing the beauty of nature. Gail was an avid birder and master gardener. She maintained perennial gardens and plantings in her yard. She was a skilled crafter, accomplished at flower arranging and wreath making, and she enjoyed sharing her skills with others. Gail was a member, twice the past president, of the Western Cranston Garden Club and represented the WCGC at the Rhode Island Federation of Garden Clubs.

Her faith was at the core of everything she did and she was very involved with the Shepherd of the Valley's United Methodist Women's Group. Gail was actively involved in their annual Christmas bazaar and shared her creative passions. The last fifteen years, she enjoyed camping with her husband in Maine in their RV.

She is also survived by her three children: Laurie A. (Hanson) Roberts (husband Floyd) of Ellicott City, MD; Todd W. Hanson (wife Carmen Estrada) of West Greenwich, RI; and Richard R. Hanson (companion Keisha Smith) of Cranston, RI; grandson Roland P. Hanson; step grandchildren: Heidy Mayorga, Alexis and Marvin Estrada; two step great-grandchildren and two siblings Gar Alexander of Augusta, ME and Ann Stinson of Richmond, ME. She was the grandmother of the late Sasha G. Roberts.

Gail's calling hours will take place at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Thursday March 16 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Friends and family may gather for a funeral service at Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Church 604 Seven Mile Road, Scituate, RI on Friday, March 17 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd. #3004, Warwick, RI 02886 or to the Audubon Society at
